Programme > American Independent: Jonathan Caouette Masterclass
Friday, Feb 10th, 18.00 – 19.00, Newport Film School, A16
When Francis Ford Coppola made his famous quote about the next great hope of cinema being a little kid from Ohio making a beautiful film on their father’s camcorder he could have been talking about Jonathan Caouette.
By the age of 8 he’d already made a number of short films including The Ankle Slasher and Pig Nymph. He subsequently went on to star in 8 commercials, 17 student films, and a variety of stage plays with roles including a schizophrenic John the Baptist and a queer Judas. He created the quintessential DIY feature film with Tarnation – a documentary scrapbook about his troubled childhood. His subsequent films confirmed the promise shown in his debut feature and are bursting with verve, self-confidence and originality. He is undoubtedly one of the most exciting new voices to have emerged from the US independent filmmaking scene in the last ten years and we’re delighted to have him at Ffresh.
